Lord Howe Island

Private jet charter and flights to Lord Howe Island

Famed for its nesting seabirds, lush rainforest and tranquil beaches, Lord Howe Island is located 372 miles east of the Australian mainland. With areas of virtually untouched forest, pristine beaches and spectacular panoramic views from Mount Gower, this truly is an island paradise. Experience it all, charter a private jet today.

Lord Howe Island, one of Australia's Top 10 Destinations 2017, is a 3600 acre island bursting with natural wonders and activities. A sandy, semi-enclosed, coral reef lagoon lies along the west coast of the island with the south dominated by pristine forests and overshadowed by the highest point on the island, Mount Gower. With only 400 visitors permitted on the island at any one time, the lodges, beach houses and cottages complement the relaxed approach to life on the island with a range of self-catering or catered options to make every stay special.

This exclusive theme carries through to the dining choices available on Lord Howe Island. With fresh fish delivered, it's your call whether you fix a meal at home or take it out to barbeque on one of the eleven island beaches. If you prefer to trust a professional, Lord Howe Island offers the best of both home-style and contemporary cuisine. Set in the forest is the Arajilla Restaurant, an elegant, yet casual, style restaurant with a seafood bias and an international menu. The restaurant at the Beachcomber Lodge is boutique-style and offers a sustainably sourced, three-course traditional island fish fry buffet, complete with entrée, buffet mains with a variety of salads made with local produce.

The crystal-clear waters on the world's most southerly coral reefs are home to over 500 species of fish and you can get among them on a snorkeling trip or above them in a glass-bottomed boat. Erscott's Hole is dominated by Staghorn coral, protected by a naturally occurring groyne and blessed by the sheer variety of species to be found here in the clear waters. Before packing the snorkel away, take a trip to North Bay to observe fish, turtles, stingrays and corals on your way to exploring the wreck of the Favourite, a boat that has rested on the seabed since 1965.

Standing 875 metres tall, Mt. Gower is Lord Howe Island's highest mountain. The walk to the top and back takes a full day but the 360-degree views of the island and its crystal blue waters from the summit make it completely worthwhile. Transit Hill, centrally located on the island, affords a more leisurely walk to the look-out point. More 360-degree views of the surrounding turquoise waters but this time, accessible via a narrow track for a cooling swim or paddle from Blinky Beach.

For experienced climbers, a boat trip to Ball's Pyramid might appeal. Sticking straight up out of the sea 14 miles off the coast of Lord Howe Island, this jagged crag is 551 metres top to bottom. Divers can explore the caves around the base of the mountain and marvel at the underwater world which is home to a plethora of fish, including Spanish Dancers, Rainbow Runners and Amberjack, as well as marlin, dolphin and turtles.

Lord Howe Island is Australia's premier bird-watching destination, boasting over 130 permanent and migratory bird species. Among them is the Lord Howe Island Woodhen, a flightless endemic species saved from extinction by a local conservation effort. With 14 species of seabirds breeding here in the hundreds of thousands, a highlight is one of the world's rarest birds, the Providence Petrel, which returns to the island to nest in the southern mountains.

Explore the island by bike, hiring your two-wheeled steed from Wilson's Bike Hire. Alternatively, enjoy a round of golf at the 9-hole Lord Howe Island Golf Club, one of Australia's most picturesque courses. Other land-based activities available on Lord Howe Island include lawn bowls at the Lord Howe Island Bowling Club, and tennis at Blue Lagoon, Ocean View and Pinetrees.

Taking advantage of the natural elements outside the lagoon, surfing can be organised at Blinky Beach. Inside the lagoon, the calmer waters are perfect for kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. Head to Ned's Beach Hire to get set up for a day to remember.
