Formula 1 British Grand Prix, 5-8 July

The Formula 1 Grand Prix needs no introduction. If you’re a fan of the world’s most-watched motorsports tournament, you won’t want to miss the British leg of 2018’s series at the famous Silverstone circuit. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the event, so special celebrations will be ongoing throughout the weekend – guests can look forward to concerts and entertainment activities that are sure to make this year’s Grand Prix one to remember.

General Admission tickets start at £40 or £20 for under-16s, however if you want to take full advantage of the 70th anniversary celebrations – which include a display of some of the most influential cars and drivers from the past 70 years of Formula 1 – you’ll need an Inner Track Pass. The Asics British 10k, 15 July

Over 10,000 participants are set to take to the streets of London for this exciting running race. The course weaves its way through the English capital’s heart, passing iconic landmarks including Big Ben, the River Thames, Trafalgar Square and Westminster Abbey. The British 10k partners with a number of charities including UN Women UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Childhood First and Cancer Research UK. Tickets are limited, so book soon if you’d like to take part. If you don’t manage to crack the nod as a competitor, you can always spectate instead.

Berlin/Glasgow 2018 European Championships, 2-12 August

The European Championships is a multi-sport event that takes place across Glasgow, Edinburgh and Berlin for 10 days in August. The event features competitions in seven sports: athletics, aquatics, rowing, golf, cycling, gymnastics and triathlon. While this is the festival’s debut year, it’s already building up hype as an unmissable fixture on this year’s European sporting calendar. Music festivals in 2018

Wilderness Festival, 2-5 August

Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire is certainly one of the more sophisticated entries on our 2018 festival calendar. As well as having an A-list lineup including Jon Hopkins, Bastille, Justice and Groove Armada, guests can look forward to a cultured affair that includes a banquet-style feast, a one-man performance of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, hot tubs to unwind in and even a science lecture to satisfy enquiring minds.

Green Man Festival, 16-19 August

See some of the world’s best folk and indie artists in action at Green Man Festival, which is held in the jaw-droppingly beautiful Brecon Beacons’ Black Mountains in Wales. Against this picture-perfect backdrop, this year’s stellar lineup of live acts includes heavyweights like Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes and The War on Drugs. Not just in it for the music? Green Man is also host to comedy, theatre and literary performances, as well as a host of market stalls, spas and therapies to make the mornings after a little easier.

Reading and Leeds Festivals, 24-26 August

With Glastonbury being off the cards for 2018, it falls to some of the other major players in the UK festival calendar to step up – and Reading and Leeds festivals seem to have done just that. As far as iconic British festivals go, Reading and Leeds are right up there with Glastonbury, and this year’s lineup has something for everyone with headliners including Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone, Kings of Leon, Panic! At The Disco and Fallout Boy.

Tickets to Reading and Leeds sell out fast, so make sure to book yours early or have enough cash in hand to barter outside the venue if you feel like living on the edge. Film festivals in 2018

Raindance Film Festival, 19-30 September

Over its 26-year history, the Raindance Film Festival in London has become the UK’s biggest celebration of independent film and also operates in several major cities around the world. In addition to the hundreds of films on show at the festival, guests can look forward to watching talks and panels at the Raindance Forum and Marketplace and viewing Virtual Reality and New Media films at the Raindance VRX programme.

Cambridge Film Festival, 25 October – 1 November

The Cambridge Film Festival celebrates films past, present and future in one of the UK’s most prestigious university cities. What sets Cambridge apart from other film festivals is its intimate atmosphere and lack of fanfare – you can expect to rub shoulders with famous directors, filmmakers and actors as they enjoy the festival alongside adoring fans and film buffs. Films are screened both indoors and outdoors, with organisers priding themselves on choosing unconventional venues such as pedestrianised streets, local churches and university colleges.

London International Animation Festival, 1-10 November

The London International Animation Festival is a celebration of all things animated and a chance for artists to show that animated movies and series aren’t just for kids. The festival features some of the most provocative, creative and entertaining animation in the world, as well as workshops, retrospectives and Q&A sessions with renowned filmmakers and animators. Guests can also take part in gala premiers and rub shoulders with some of the biggest names in the world of animation.
