Top Three Aviation Themed Hotels

For most, unless you’ve managed to score and upgrade, or are chartering, sleeping on planes can be a pain, but not in these amazing hotels.

THE NL HOSTEL SUITE, NETHERLANDS

The NL Hotel Suite is as luxurious as any private jet. A Cold War-era East German aircraft has been transformed into a luxury suite, located close to Teuge Airport. It’s slick and modern, with all the mod cons you’d expect of an executive airliner, with all the additional extras of a hotel suite. There’s a Jacuzzi, sauna, full kitchen, luxurious bathroom and a chic bedroom with double bed. But they’ve kept the cockpit intact, so you can see all the controls and sit in the pilot’s seat itself. The suite accommodates two and they are quite strict on the no visitors rule. Rates are approx. $260 per night.

Heading a bit further afield, Woodlyn Park near Waitomo is home to a converted plane ideal for families. Made up of two separate units, you can choose from The Cockpit or The Tail, both of which can sleep up to four people. The cockpit has a double bed and a sofa that pulls out to a large single but also limited floor space and quite a low ceiling. The Tail has a double bed and a set of bunkbeds, reached by a ladder. Rates are $85 for The Cockpit and $78 for The Tail, for two people per night. Additional people cost an extra $7 per night. If staying in the cockpit, children must be over 8 years of age due to the sleep access ladder.
